Fairywill Water Flosser and Electric Toothbrush Review
May 07, 20210 Comments
Hello!

Welcome back to a new review! This is, in my opinion, an exciting review because I've gone years with my dentist begging me to buy both of these items, but I recently (finally) in early March purchased an electric toothbrush and water flosser. I've always been hesitant because they're normally so expensive, especially if you want a cute one, which of course I did so I kept pushing it off for years.

Due to the pandemic, I haven't seen my dentist in over one year (closer to one year and a half). This is very bad because I'm the patient that always has at least one cavity, despite visiting every six months. For some reason my teeth don't hold the fillings well so they always break and expose my teeth to cavities. I've been worried since it's been so long, so I finally started researching what the best electric toothbrushes are on the market, while still hoping for a cute pink one, and discovered Fairywill.

Originally I discovered their pink toothbrushes and was very close to buying them after reading the amazing reviews, but when I saw the water flosser set, I knew I had to get it. I have permanent retainers, which makes flossing almost impossible (even the dentist has a hard time), which is why he's always recommended me to buy one of these. I immediately ordered the Eight piece set after confirming it had the features of the super expensive tooth brushes and it arrived within two days, despite not having Amazon Prime.

I'll start with the toothbrush itself since that was the most important part of my purchase. The toothbrush included in this set is the D7 Series Electric Toothbrush. Fairywill has a chart that compares the different toothbrush models on the product page, and this one appears to be the runner up to the strongest model, their Pro Series.

Main Toothbrush Features
  • Five brushing modes
  • Sonic cleaning
  • Automatic timer
  • Waterproof
  • Great battery life
  • Low battery reminder
  • USB charging with auto shut-off
  • Four brush heads included
  • Brushes have blue replacement bristles
  • Brush head cover with ventilation

The five brushing modes include:
White: The strongest, consistent pulse brushing mode. This is what I use every time I brush.
Clean: Not as strong, consistent pulse every day mode, more suitable for those with sensitive gums.
Polish: ?
Massage: Inconsistent pulse brushing mode meant to help massage the gums. I have used this a few times when my gums were feeling sensitive due to the water flosser.

Charge: Low battery warning will light up once the brush is running out of battery life. I used this brush every day, three times a day, for nearly a month and a half before having to charge it (after the initial charge when I first received it).

I really love this toothbrush. It works really well, it's easy to use and clean and it's really pretty to look at. It's surprisingly light weight, which makes it great for travelling. My teeth felt much cleaner after the first use and when I tried using my old manual toothbrush for my mid-day brush (yes, I brush my teeth after every meal) I was unimpressed and brushed them again with this toothbrush. This has the same technology as the toothbrushes you'd pay $200 for, all while being really cute and affordable, with the ability to purchase replacement brush heads in bulk when needed. It's water proof, making it easy to clean, and it charges very quickly without needing a bulky charging station. It's also nice that I can't mix this up with my husbands boring white, bulky electric toothbrush. I love the rose gold ring around the power button too. I'm sure enough my husband will decide to upgrade, at which point I'll give him this one and will purchase the pink version of this same brush (I'll take the brush head from this one to place on my future new one, of course).

Now onto the Water Flosser. I've never used one of these before, with the closest thing being the water hose used at the dentist. I was pretty scared at first since it'd been over a year since going to the dentist, and quite honestly, since I attempted flossing. I knew my gums were going to hate me, so I was grateful to see the different settings.

Main Water Flosser Features
  • Three floss modes
  • Waterproof
  • Also a great battery life
  • USB charging as well!
  • Four water nozzle heads included

The three flossing modes include:
Clean: This is the strongest mode and I highly recommend not starting with this one.
Soft: This is the softest mode and what I use each time and recommend starting with.
Massage: I've used this a few times. It appears to be a mix between the first two settings, so it's good for transitioning to the Clean mode after getting used to Soft.

This thing is very effective at removing anything from your gums or around a permanent retainer. I was always sceptical as to how a water flosser would do that, but this thing is so much stronger than I thought it would be. As I mentioned above, I recommend starting with the Soft mode unless you're already a really good and consistent flosser. Most people I know definitely aren't. The Soft mode is still pretty strong made my and my husbands gums bleed the first time we tried it. My husband also has permanent retainers, so I'm not surprised about that. I use this every few days and my gums have definitely gotten stronger over the last month and a bit. My husband has upgraded to using the massage mode, which is basically the in-between setting. Even if my gums become super strong, I don't see myself needing to use the Clean mode, unless I get something really stuck in my gums, like popcorn. I do highly recommend this as well.

The only negative I've seen so far with the flosser is that you have to properly air it out. While the instructions say you don't have to unless you're going long periods of time without using it, we noticed that it was getting gross so we now open the drain tab at the back and open up the components so it can 100% dry (including turning it on briefly without water in the tank to clear out the hose). Once we started doing that, we haven't had any issues.

If you're on the market for a new electric toothbrush, a water flosser, or both, I highly recommend this set and each separate individual component of it. You can buy the toothbrush on its own, as well as the water flosser, so it's very customizable. This particular set comes in white as well, but the toothbrush on its own comes in pink. Fairywill has lots of dental products in their Amazon store, so check them out because they all have amazing ratings and are very affordable compared to what you can get in stores.

I hope you've enjoyed this random review. Let me know if you end up trying these or any other products from Fairywill.

Hair Food Smooth Shampoo + Conditioner Review
January 25, 20200 Comments
Hello!

This review is super late. Well, not really because it's never too late to review an existing product. This is the Hair Food Avacado & Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner! I was sent this in exchange for an honest review by Shopper Army months ago and I did post the honest review and kept note of it, but I guess I forgot to post a review on the blog since you wouldn't have seen my original review. Unlike most of my hair products, these are very affordable (I found them on Walmart Canada's website for $10 a piece) so this might be very appealing to those of you who don't need to use super expensive shampoos, but still want really good ingredients. This is a really short one so if you're interested it'll only take a few minutes!

This shampoo and conditioner duo is great for anyone with dry and/or damaged hair. It's sulfate, dye, mineral oil and paraben free (even though I've learned that parabens aren't actually bad through this video) so it's pretty gentle, but the shampoo does a great job nourishing your hair while washing the grease away. I personally have very dry ends, but I only wash my hair once a week, which means it gets pretty greasy by the next wash. It's not so greasy that anyone could tell it's been a week, but it's probably what someone who normally washes their hair every day would look like if they skipped two days.

Unfortunately, while this makes my hair feel super healthy on the first few days, it does get oilier faster—even if I don't use the conditioner at all. I'm used to it getting greasy after five days, but with this I notice it after three. This won't be an issue for 90% of people I know since they wash their hair several times per week.

My partner washes his hair every other day and this has been amazing for his dry scalp so he will continue using the shampoo (he doesn't condition). I can see myself using this when I really need some nourishing (especially after a lot of hair styling or chemical treatments), but on a day to day this isn't for someone like me. Anyone who needs nourishment all over their hair and not just the ends would love this! The conditioner is also great for dry and/or damaged hair,  but if you've been following me for a while you'll know that I'm one of the rare few that go through conditioner slower than shampoo. Like three times slower.

Overall this is a great product, but wasn't a perfect fit for me, which is ok! I'm going to write a post in the near future where I list my favourite hair products and explain why I love them and when/how I use them.

I hope you enjoyed this super quick review!

Revlon #feelinglippie 2019 ~ Lots of new makeup!
June 24, 20190 Comments
Hello!

I went to the 2019 Revlon #feelinglippie event a few weeks back and got to see and bring home some new products that will be available in stores very soon (if not already). I also have other newer products that Revlon sent me in the mail a few months back that I completely forgot to write a post about, so I'm including them here since most of the were also featured at the showcase!

I've already given a mini review of the products in the first picture so I'll link my Instagram posts that reference them here. I'll provide a quick breakdown though. Love: Foundation, lipstick. Like: Brow pencil and lash curler. Meh: Concealer. Let me know in the comments if you want to know any specifics about any of those that I don't mention in the post. The one product I did want to touch on is the brow product since there's only one thing I don't like about it that didn't have me including it in the love category.

Here's the Colorstay Brow Creator swatched on my wrist. The thinner line on the right is the actual brow pencil, and the thicker one on the left is the powder. Yes, there's a powder sponge thing included in that pencil, but it's also the part I don't like. The powder itself works nicely in the brows, but at least with mine, there's no way to stop it from falling all over the place. Luckily when I swatched it I found this out, rather than using it on my face and ruining my foundation. The next pic is what my desk looked like after just swatching my arm.

Now imagine having those powder speckles all over your finished makeup face. Yeah... I wouldn't want that either. If you want to use the powder in this product, I highly recommend doing your eyebrows first or at least before your foundation. Maybe my particular pencil is the only one falling all over the place like this, but I'd rather let you all know just to be safe. I love the brow pencil and spooley though and think it's 100% worth purchasing it,  even if you don't end up getting use out of the powder.

Now onto the newer products!

These are brand new Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polishes and I LOVE them! They're SUPER pigmented and wear for a very long time, but that also means they're a bit sticky so you probably don't want to wear them on a windy day with your long hair down. In the second pic of this post you can also see a clear gloss. That's the new formulation of their Super Lustrous lip gloss (I guess it's now called 'The Gloss') and I'm a little sad to say that I don't like the new formula as much as the last one. It's way too sticky for my liking, though it is a lot shinier so it really depends on your preference!

For the Lip Polishes I was gifted the colours 'Berry Blissed' and 'Cherry on Top' and I've been loving them! I'm hoping to get my hands on some of the nudes. I'm wearing 'Cherry on Top' in this next pic!

Isn't it so pretty? Ok enough of that. Now onto the eyeliners!

The So Fierce Vinyl Eyeliners got me so excited at the event! They swatch like a dream and stay on forever if you don't rub them. This is something that I could wear on my eyelid that wouldn't smudge off when I forget that I'm wearing makeup and accidentally rub my eyes. It'll stay on my hand forever if I don't intentionally try to scrub it off. The colours are so rich and creamy (I had a swatch of the red one on my hand the night of the event an I loved it) and I was super excited to get the purple colour in my gift baggie. I'm leaving the black on in its packaging for now because I have so many other open black liners, but I'm hesitant to give it away because the formula is seriously amazing so we'll see. Perhaps I'll keep it on hand until my next declutter series so I can add it into my main collection!

As for the mascara, I have a million to go through first (as usual) so it might be a year or two before I eventually get to it (unless I start seeing people raving about this one).

All in all I'm very excited about the new releases. I love most of them, but there are always a few things I don't love so I enjoy being able to share my honest thoughts with you and really appreciate that Revlon keeps sending me their products to try out and inviting me to their Toronto events, even though I'm not afraid to tell my readers and viewers if I don't like a particular product. Here's a little pic of what I wore to the event because I love the pants (even though it's unrelated to this post hehe).

I hope you've enjoyed this post and can get your hands on some of these products (Especially the foundation, lip vinyls and eyeliner!).

See you soon!

BH Cosmetics Take Me Back To Brazil Eyeshadow Palette Review
May 25, 20190 Comments
Hello!

I know I'm one of those bloggers that rarely purchases new beauty products on their own. As some of you know; I'm on a very strict entertainment budget that hasn't changed since I was a student in university. There are many reasons for that and perhaps one day I'll start a series all about saving money and being an adult, but that's not what this post is about. I finally bought myself a new makeup product!

This post is all about the not-so-new Take Me Back To Brazil eyeshadow (but really pressed pigments) palette from BH Cosmetics. I've seen this here and there on YouTube and instagram, but never paid much attention to it until I watched a RawBeautyKristi video where she used this.

I've been itching to buy a rainbow palette for a while now. I own A LOT of eyeshadows and palettes, but I didn't own a good quality rainbow palette (just a very old one that had no pigment and a few random single shadows here and there). I really want to experiment more with fun makeup looks, and sometimes I just want a random pop of colour on the lower lash line. I came very close to buying a more expensive rainbow palette during the spring Sephora sale, but opted for this instead an I'm so happy about it!

This palette is filled with 35 pressed pigments. I'm sure by now you know the difference between those and regular eyeshadows, but if you don't, give it a quick Google search! The main thing I care about is that pressed pigments are... well... very pigmented. I'll let the swatches speak for me.

I'm loving this palette so far and highly HIGHLY recommend it if you don't already own a pigmented rainbow palette. This is cruelty free (not vegan due to some of the pigments), but it does contain talc and mica, which I know some people have issues with (not me). Because this is a pressed pigment palette, the brand does disclose that the palette is not intended for use around the immediate eye area, though we all know that they legally have to state that and most people will be using the shadows for that reason. If you have sensitive eyes and are prone to staining, you might want to steer clear of any pressed pigment palettes!

I've played with a few different colour groups so far. I'll insert an instagram post below where I'm using yellows and reds below!

I did also pick up one of the BH Cosmetics Power Pencils while on the website in the colour teal because I don't own bright eyeliners and wanted to give it a try due to the positive reviews. The pencil isn't as bright as I'd hoped for, but it's still very pigmented and will definitely be useful!

That's it for this quick and sweet review. Have you ever tried this eyeshadow palette out? Do you have any recommendations of what colours you would like to see me use together on Instagram? Let me know and I'll see you soon!

New Makeup from Almay ~ Review
April 26, 20190 Comments
Hello!

I received a gifted bag full of makeup products from Almay a little over a week ago for reviewing purposes. I took pictures that same night before I jumped into trying the new products on Good Friday without looking at any reviews.

Almay is one of those brands that I’ve never truly tried before. I can with 100% certainty say that I’ve never purchased anything from them before, but I’m pretty sure my mother had a few products from them when I was a child that I may have played with over  decade ago when they were probably expired for a little while (my mom uses the same mascara for 3+ years if that tells you anything). Why have I never tried them? I’ve honestly never heard people raving about any of their products. If anything, most mentions of the makeup were negative.

I went in with a small bias that the products wouldn’t perform well and to be fully honest, some didn’t. However, of the products i received, I really enjoyed most of them! The only product I haven’t yet tried is the mascara because I already have two different ones open and I’m the type of girl who doesn’t wear makeup very often and doesn’t want any of it to go to waste. I also have to change my mascara’s every 2-3 months because my eyes are super sensitive.

Let’s jump into the actual review and swatches!

Make Them Jelly Hi-Lite

When I first opened the box, this is immediately what my eyes went to. I know Jelly products have been a thing for years, but I’ve never tried any before so I was really excited to give these a go. I swatched them both and they perform equally as well, but it mainly comes down to preference of colour for me. I’m a gold-toned kind of girl when it comes to highlighter and eyeshadow (Pretty in Bronze… duh) so I know I’ll be using that one the most, but I’m keeping both for sure since pink is another favourite of mine and can make for some really cool looks (especially if using it on the body).

The texture is exactly what it looks like. Though once you warm it up with your fingers it is very easy to apply. These apply more like a thin glitter, but they don’t look chunky on the face at all. This also doesn’t disrupt my foundation when I go to apply it (even on my nose!), but that might also depend on the foundation. I’ve been using the Lancome Teint Idole, which is pretty long-wearing in itself. These look so beautiful on their own and amplify powder highlighter that you add on top.

Powder Highlighters

Like the jelly highlighters, I received one in gold and one in pink. When I first swatched these I was worried that they were going to look powdery or have no shine on the face, but thankfully that’s not the case. I always mix the four colours together in the pan onto my fan brush before applying like normal. These go on very smooth an give more of a glow than a shimmery look (which I prefer), but when you layer them on top of the jelly they’re so amazing since the shimmers from the jelly shine through and give such a cool look. Not to mention that using both together makes your highlighter last all day long without needing any touch ups at all.

Eyeshadow Palettes

I had a feeling when I saw these that they wouldn’t be great. I feel like a lot of the negative reviews of Almay products in the past had to do with their eyeshadows, and after swatching and wearing these I understood why. These are powdery, not very pigmented and they blend away too easily and have a tendency to become muddy looking. I’ve tried both palettes and the quality is the same between both, but I do prefer the darker one since they aren’t very pigmented. I wouldn’t recommend these since there are so many affordable eyeshadow palettes that are on par with high end eyeshadows for under $10 CAD at the drugstore so you aren’t missing out on these ones.

Velvet Foiled Cream Shadow

Thankfully not all eyeshadow products from Almay are the same. These Cream Shadows are actually pretty good and I enjoyed them quite a bit. I wish I got a deeper neutral colour, but I made both work with my eye look over the weekend. These make a nice base and work well on their own too. I do find that you have to wait for it to dry a bit before applying a bit more to make it opaque enough, but at least it layers to give you good pigmentation. While I liked them, I don’t see myself reaching for them very often for use on their own, but I definitely like layering powder eyeshadows on top to make my eye look last all day long!

I'm an idiot and forgot to take swatch pictures of this one :(

Goddess Gloss

I was really excited when I saw these glosses because I can never get enough! I enjoy a few liquid lipsticks (sometimes), but I’m the kind of girl that likes my lips to look moisturized and shiny. I decided to not open the white/iridescent gloss since I own a very similar looking colour and would rather make someone happy with it, but I went straight for the (fuschia) the second I opened the bag and put it on before taking pictures of anything.

I really like the texture and colour payoff from this lipgloss. It looks super shiny and glittery in the tube, but when you put it on it gives the perfect amount of both without looking like a metallic or foiled lip. The application is nice an the texture is as well. It’s a little bit sticky so I refuse to wear this if I’m outside in the wind or if my hair is down and in my face, but if I’m taking pictures or wearing this indoors I love it! After all, if a gloss is a bit sticky, it tends to last a lot longer than one that feels super slippery.

Clear Complexion Blemish Armor / Salicylic Acid

This was the strangest product to see in the gift bag I received. I feel like a lot of brands are releasing Salicylic acids, but the ingredient is always the same. I don’t know how it works, but even though it’s always 2%, the texture of the acid is always different. This one is creamy looking and not completely clear. I’m not a fan of using an applicator to touch directly to my breakouts (even if the acid is supposed to make the wand clean) and honestly, this doesn’t work as well as my other go to salicylic acid 2% products. I’m not sure how that makes sense, but I can’t be bothered looking it up. I also find this hard to take off in the morning without using a cleansing water after washing my face. My other ones wash right off and I’m ready to go. This is another disappointing product, but it’s also not makeup so I don't mind.

Overall, I really enjoyed most of the products I received from Almay! I don’t know if it’s because they’re all new and the brand has stepped up their game, or if I just have different preferences to most people, but I’m no longer afraid to actually look at the products from this brand when I’m walking down the makeup aisle in the drugstore. I can say with confidence that a lot of it is good and they just aren’t spoken about a lot. Hopefully this will inspire you to give some of their products a try, or to give brands a try that you may have heard negative reviews about in the past. Other than the regular eyeshadow palettes and salicylic acid, I recommend trying out all of the other products. Please look up reviews of their mascaras since I didn’t get a chance to try it for this post (I will eventually share my thoughts once I use it), but everything else was great!

I hope you enjoyed this review. Thank you Almay for giving me these products for free to try out and provide my honest thoughts!

See you soon!

Wet n Wild Colour Icon Blush Review
December 24, 20180 Comments
Hello!

Back in the summer when I received a huge PR package from Wet n Wild, this Colour Icon Blush  in the colour 'Dare to Soar' from their Flights of Fancy collection was included. At first I thought it was a mistake because it looks way too dark, but you'll see from this post that it does work on light skin tones too.

As you can see, if you swatch the blush lightly, it's not too crazy dark. Though if you build it up it becomes very vibrant so it would work very well on deep skin tones as well. Thankfully with a light hand, this works for me. Not sure if this would work on someone pale, but as a light medium girl with a yellow to olive undertone, this is great.

Below is what the blush looks like on my face when applied with a very light hand. I don't even sweep the brush in the blush. I just lightly tap it to make sure I don't accidentally pick up too much product. This blush gives a beautiful glow as well so I skipped highlighter so you can see what it looks like on its own. I do have contour out that I was taking pictures for (coming soon), but you can see how subtle this blush can be.

I applied the blush with a little bit more of a heavy hand on this side of my face to show you how I wear this. In the summer I just need to tap in a little harder for even more pigment. My mom has much darker skin than me, so I would probably lightly swipe for it to show up on her, but for deep skin I imagine you can swipe a regular amount to build the shade up on you.

Surprisingly this blush is still available on the Wet n wild website. I'm not sure if it's still in Canadian stores or not since it is from a limited edition collection from the summer. I did see it about a month ago in my local Rexall so there's a chance you may still find it, but I know a lot of people received this in PR so I wanted to show that while a blush might look scary, it doesn't mean that it won't work for you.

See you soon and Merry Christmas!

Wet n Wild Megaglow Contouring Palette Review
December 13, 20180 Comments
Hello!

Today's review is on this Wet n Wild Contouring powder! This is another item that was sent to me back in the summer and it is in the shade Dulce De Leche, which for some reason isn't currently on their website. There only shade that is currently on the Wet n Wild website 'Caramel Toffee' is a bit darker, but it seems like only these two shades exist, which isn't great for anyone with a very light skin tone, or anyone with a medium to deep skin tone either.

As you can see below, the shades are ok for my skin tone, but I did swatch these when I still had my summer tan.

I took these face pictures very recently, which is why I'm much lighter. My lighting situation at the moment is pretty terrible because I'm temporarily living in a basement with no natural light and there's no space for my studio lighting to be set up, so I'm stuck with one light without the umbrella, and my makeup mirror light, which makes me look even more pale.

The contouring powder is currently a bit too dark for me, so I went in with an incredibly light hand to show you how you can still make it work for you if you have a light skin tone. I just put some along the edges of my cheekbones to make them look more prominent, along the edges of my face, a tiny bit dusted over my nose and then lightly brushed into my crease to even out the face. As for the highlighting powder, I just placed it under my eyes.

As you can see, you can make the contouring powder subtle if it's too dark for you. What I haven't tried is mixing the contouring powder with the highlighting powder to dull it down a bit, but since they are both matte I would imagine that could help as well. Do I recommend this product? For $5 USD it's a maybe. I feel like there are other powders from Wet n Wild and Essence that are around the same price that could work better, but if you have the right skin tone for it, you'll probably enjoy it! I'm more of a 'no fuss' makeup person so I'd rather the product be more buildable rather than very pigmented so I don't have to be too careful with it.

I hope you enjoyed this short review! I have a few more to go for Wet n Wild reviews of the products I received in PR this past summer, but at least the end is very near!

See you soon

Essence Colour Correcting Sticks Review
December 05, 20180 Comments
Hello!

It's been a while since I reviewed the Essence Colour Correcting Liquid Concealers, but I've been trying out so many different products and have a bunch of reviews in the works. Now I can confidently say that I've put the also affordable stick version to the test to fully know my opinions on them. I received all of these for free, but that won't stop me from honestly reviewing them. Let's get started.

Below are swatches on my wrist.

The following two photos are how I used these correctors for the best result. The areas with the green are all parts of my face that have redness, including a few breakouts.  The yellow was used under my eyes and also sometimes mixed in with the green. The purple (meant for brightening) is above my lip and on the sides of my face where my skin looks a bit dull. The pink was added just below my eyes on the lash line since that area can appear quite dark.

I decided to go with a foundation that I know a lot of people have tried in the past. I'm wearing the Makeup Forever Ultra HD foundation here since it's pretty full coverage. I decided to go for this because let's be honest; If you're going through the effort to colour correct everything, you're probably looking for higher coverage.

The foundation itself didn't fully cover the green from the colour corrector. However, most people wear concealer so I tested that out as well below. I added the LA girl pro concealer since that is another well known one. It's pretty full coverage. The colour correctors in this stick formula don't stick well to dry patches and breakouts, so it made the concealer an foundation break apart around them, kind of rendering them useless.

Excuse the concealer lips from patting it around my mouth. My chin still kept some redness since the green seemed to blend away when applying the foundation and concealer. The photo below is the side view and as you can see, the purple doesn't seem to show through, and neither does the pink or yellow. Looking close up in a mirror you can see a bit of texture that normally wouldn't show up without using the colour correctors.

My overall review is that these aren't worth it. While they are very affordable, I MUCH prefer the liquid concealer version. Yes, those only come in green, yellow and pink, however I don't think the purple actually does anything (for me at least) and the other shade for the sticks was a tan colour that is too dark for my skin tone, so I gave it away a long while before writing this review.

That's it for this review! I only have a handful of older products to review left before moving on to only reviewing products as they come in. Let me know your thoughts on these colour correctors and if you also prefer the liquid version to these.

See you soon!
